Austrian authorities had to rescue young children from municipal mailboxes on at least two occasions recently near Vienna.
The Associated Press reported that the children are getting into the mailboxes as pranks or part of games they are playing. But once inside, they can’t get out.
In one incident, postal authorities were unable to find the keys to the mailbox, so firefighters had to use welding torches and bolt cutters to gain access and remove the child.
Fortunately, no children have been injured in these incidents, but the phenomenon remains worrying and potentially dangerous, nonetheless.
